Thyroid Cystic Nodules May Have Ultrasonographic Features Mimicking Malignancy during Interval Changes

چکیده
Ultrasonography (US) features of thyroid nodules can be helpful in identifying those most at risk for malignancy; these include marked hypoechogenicity, microcalcifications, irregular margins, and a taller-than-wide shape (nonparallel orientation). Some cystic change morphologically after simple aspiration percutaneous ethanol injection treatment. They show hypoechogenicity margins on the US difficult to distinguish from papillary carcinoma. This article covered imaging precautions when malignant nodule is suspected during clinical course cyst.

Benign cystic nodules may have ultrasonographic features mimicking papillary thyroid carcinoma during interval changes.
It had been observed that some cystic nodules change morphologically with ultrasonographic (US) features suspicious for malignancy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the US characteristics of benign cystic nodules mimicking papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) during interval changes. Between January 2009 and October 2009, 26 patients with benign cystic nodules showing marked hypoechogenicity ...
متن کاملUltrasonographic characteristics of thyroid nodules: prediction of malignancy.
BACKGROUND High-resolution real-time ultrasonography (US) can detect characteristics of thyroid nodules, but the US differentiation between malignant nodules and benign nodules is not well described. HYPOTHESIS Ultrasonography is useful for predicting malignancy of thyroid nodules. DESIGN A retrospective study of 329 thyroid nodules (> or =5 mm) in 309 patients comparing US characteristics ...
متن کاملNomogram for predicting malignancy in thyroid nodules using clinical, biochemical, ultrasonographic, and cytologic features.
BACKGROUND Thyroid nodules often discovered incidentally and present a management problem particularly when investigations suggest atypical or suspicious cells. Prediction of the risk of malignancy within such a thyroid nodule is based on clinical, biochemical, ultrasonographic, and cytologic features. Our aim was to create a nomogram to predict accurately the chance of malignancy within a thyr...
متن کاملPartially Cystic Thyroid Nodules: Ultrasound Findings of Malignancy
OBJECTIVE To seek for the ultrasound (US) findings of partially cystic thyroid nodules that are associated with malignancy. MATERIALS AND METHODS We reviewed the US characteristics of 22 surgically confirmed partially cystic papillary carcinomas, and compared them with those of 80 benign partially cystic nodules. The review cases were selected in a random order from a total of 1029 partially ...
متن کاملUltrasonographic Interval Changes in Solid Thyroid Nodules after Ultrasonography-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration
Objective None of the previous studies have investigated the interval change in ultrasonography (US) features of solid thyroid nodules (STNs) after US-guided fine-needle aspiration (US-FNA). This study aimed to assess the prevalence and characteristics of US interval changes in STNs after US-FNA. Materials and Methods This study included 257 STNs in 257 patients in whom thyroid US and initial...
