چکیده

The single-phase-to-ground (SPG) fault at the valve side of converter transformer is one most critical faults threatening operation bipolar half-bridge modular-multilevel-converter-based multi-terminal direct-current (HB-MMC MTDC) systems. Following a valve-side SPG fault, upper-arm submodule (SM) capacitors in faulty may suffer serious overvoltage, and grid-side currents experience no zero-crossings. existing protection methods generally rely on tripping alternate-current circuit-breaker (ACCB), which cannot fully isolate fault. healthy poles stations encounter severe disturbance be all blocked, will lead to power outage entire MTDC system. This paper proposes an ACCB-independent scheme based thyristor-pairs damping SMs address these problems. Antiparallel are connected series within upper lower arms each phase. Serial help lower-arm thyristor pairs cut off currents. Although proposed additional devices inevitably cause conduction losses, they can effectively protect circuit Simulations PSCAD/EMTDC have been conducted verify effectiveness strategy.

An Improved MMC Control Strategy with Single-Phase to Ground Fault-Tolerance Capability

In this paper, an improved modular multilevel converter (MMC) control strategy based on one-cycle control (OCC) is proposed. With the introduction of OCC, the stability, rapidity and disturbance rejection of MMC is greatly improved. Based on the volt-second equilibrium, the control is distributed to every single submodule (SM). For further stability, an unbalanced OCC strategy is designed based...

A Novel Protection Method for Single Line-to-Ground Faults in Ungrounded Low-Inertia Microgrids

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel protection method for single line-to-ground (SLG) faults in ungrounded low-inertia microgrids. The proposed method includes microgrid interface protection and unit protection. The microgrid interface protection is based on the difference between the zero-sequence voltage angle and the zero-sequence current angle at the microgrid interconnection transformer ...

Simultaneous power sharing and protection against faults for DGs in microgrid with different loads

The LVRT (Low Voltage Ride Through) is the main characteristic of every power system in faulty conditions. When fault occurs, it is essential for power system such as microgrid to control the voltage and frequency normally. Naturally in fault status, the unbalanced voltage and current are inevitable, but with the aid of LVRT technique, microgrid can keep stability in main system parameters such...

Damping and Incremental Energy in Thyristor Switching Circuits

Thyristor controlled reactors provide controllable inductances in utility power lines and are increasingly used for static var control and flexible AC transmission. The size of a perturbation from a nominal periodic steady state can be measured by its incremental energy. This paper shows that incremental energy of a small perturbation increases when a thyristor switches on and decreases when a ...
