Abstract One-dimensional substrates such as textile fibers and threads offer an excellent opportunity to realize sensors, actuators, energy harvesters/storage, microfluidics, advanced therapies. A new generation of wearable devices made from smart ultimate flexibility seamless integration with the human body garments that adorn them. This article reviews state art in thread-based for monitoring activity performance, diagnoses manages medical conditions, provides improved human–machine interfaces. In area interfaces, it discusses novel computing platforms enabled using electronics batteries/capacitors. For physical monitoring, a review strain sensing is provided. Thread-based can monitor health biological fluids total analysis systems, sweat patches, sutures/smart bandages are also included. The concludes outlook on how expected impact revolutionize next devices. Knowledge gaps emerging opportunities presented. Graphic
