Thinking Style and Paranormal Belief: The Role of Cognitive Biases

This study investigated the degree to which cognitive bias mediated relationship between thinking style and belief in paranormal. A sample of 496 participants completed Revised Paranormal Belief Scale (RPBS), Science (BISS), Cognitive Biases Questionnaire for Psychosis, reality testing subscale Inventory Personality Organization (IPO-RT). The BISS IPO-RT served as proxy indices preferred style; assessed rational-analytical (objective) processing, intuitive-experiential (subjective) processing. biases (Jumping Conclusions, Intentionalising, Catastrophising, Emotional Reasoning, dichotomous thinking) correlated positively with Mediation using path analysis indicated that Reasoning Catastrophising exerted indirect effects relation BISS, RPBS. Direct relationships existed RPBS, Of biases, only predicted contribution paranormal were consistent previous research model psychosis, asserts there are strong defective testing, emotional reasoning delusional beliefs.
