Thinking Like Entrepreneurs: Qlegal’s Experience of Teaching Law Students to have an Entrepreneurial Mindset

To advise a client you need to understand what they do. provide truly innovative, client-centred advice, also how think. These observations are especially true when working with entrepreneurs who may be otherwise inclined move forward their business or without legal guidance. Entrepreneurs distinguished by growth mindset and resilience, appetite for innovation comfort taking risks doing things themselves. As the marketplace in UK becomes increasingly competitive (due technology growing number of alternative service providers), law students adopt an entrepreneurial themselves, both navigate marketplacefor own careers commercially aware services clients. Law schools teach think like entrepreneurs, commercial clinics natural setting. This paper adopts qualitative case study approach examine qLegal, pro bono clinic within Centre Commercial Studies (“CCLS”) at Queen Mary, University London (“QMUL”) teaches develop mindset. We reflect on importance learning about developing this mindset, professional development unmet needs start-up community. will highlight challenges faced qLegal staff, including our training experience, obligations real clients students’ expectations. conclude sharing examples we currently teaching have ideas overcoming institutional improving offering even more.
