چکیده
Abstract We present the first examples of phase transitions in asymptotically flat black hole solutions. analyse thermodynamic properties holes order N ⩾ 3 Lovelock gravity, with zero cosmological constant. find a new type ‘inverted’ swallowtail indicative stable temperature regions for an otherwise unstable neutral hole, and demonstrate multiple such phases can exist coexist at multi-critical points. also that charged holes, ordinary swallowtails on Gibbs free energy branch, allowing as seen anti-de Sitter (AdS) holes. A triple point N = 5 quadruple 7 are presented explicitly. investigate changes lowest constant is varied, draw comparisons to pressure AdS systems.

The Lovelock Black Holes
Lovelock theory is a natural extension of Einstein theory of gravity to higher dimensions, and it is of great interest in theoretical physics as it describes a wide class of models. In particular, it describes string theory inspired ultraviolet corrections to Einstein-Hilbert action, while admits the Einstein general relativiy and the so called Chern-Simons theories of gravity as particular cas...
متن کاملEntropy of Lovelock Black Holes
A general formula for the entropy of stationary black holes in Lovelock gravity theories is obtained by integrating the first law of black hole mechanics, which is derived by Hamiltonian methods. The entropy is not simply one quarter of the surface area of the horizon, but also includes a sum of intrinsic curvature invariants integrated over a cross section of the horizon. jacobson@umdhep rcm@h...
متن کاملThermodynamically stable blue phases.
We show theoretically that flexoelectricity stabilizes blue phases in chiral liquid crystals. Induced internal polarization reduces the elastic energy cost of splay and bend deformations surrounding singular lines in the director field. The energy of regions of double twist is unchanged. This in turn reduces the free energy of the blue phase with respect to that of the chiral nematic phase, lea...
متن کاملCardy-Verlinde Formula and asymptotically flat rotating Charged black holes
The Cardy-Verlinde formula is generalized to the asymptotically flat rotating charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell theory and low-energy effective field theory describing string by using some typical spacetimes, such as the Kerr-Newman, Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton-axion, Kaluza-Klein, and Sen black holes. For the Kerr-Newman black hole, the definition of the Casimir energy takes the same fo...
متن کاملThe Cardy-Verlinde Formula and Asymptotically Flat Charged Black Holes
We show that the modified Cardy-Verlinde formula without the Casimir effect term is satisfied by asymptotically flat charged black holes in arbitrary dimensions. Thermodynamic quantities of the charged black holes are shown to satisfy the energytemperature relation of a two-dimensional CFT, which supports the claim in our previous work (Phys. Rev. D61, 044013, hep-th/9910244) that thermodynamic...
