چکیده
Switchable solvents are changing properties when exposed to an external stimulus. As example, for thermomorphic multiphasic system (TMS), temperature changes can induce phase separations. Aqueous systems presented here formulated with a carboxylic acid (weak acid) and amphiphilic tertiary amine base). They show thermo-switchable hydrophobicity after separation, the weak base mainly found in organic while aqueous is mostly composed of water, up 99 wt%. The separation (cloud point) be tuned from 20 80 °C depending on choice acid: molar ratio. A collection saturated aliphatic acids benzoic derivatives have been investigated evaluate impact different physico-chemical cloud point. octanol/water partition coefficient (log P) acidic constant (pKa) were identified as key adjust temperature. Finally, illustration efficiency these remove chemical it has shown that % extraction anionic dye, methyl orange, could achieved most tested TMS.

Reversed thermo-switchable molecular sieving membranes composed of two-dimensional metal-organic nanosheets for gas separation
It is highly desirable to reduce the membrane thickness in order to maximize the throughput and break the trade-off limitation for membrane-based gas separation. Two-dimensional membranes composed of atomic-thick graphene or graphene oxide nanosheets have gas transport pathways that are at least three orders of magnitude higher than the membrane thickness, leading to reduced gas permeation flux...

متن کاملModelling the behaviour of switchable-hydrophilicity solvents.
A switchable-hydrophilicity solvent (SHS) is a solvent that in one state forms a biphasic mixture with water but can be reversibly switched to another state that is miscible with water. We describe a mathematical model of the behaviour of CO2-triggered SHS that narrows the search field for these solvents in terms of their basicity and hydrophilicity. By its predictive power, the mathematical mo...

متن کاملIntervesicular exchange of lipids with weak acid and weak base characteristics: influence of transmembrane pH gradients.
Transmembrane pH gradients have previously been shown to induce an asymmetric transmembrane distribution of simple lipids that exhibit weak acid or basic characteristics (Hope, M.J. and Cullis, P.R. (1987) J. Biol. Chem. 262, 4360-4366). In the present study we have examined the influence of proton gradients on the inter-vesicular exchange of stearylamine and oleic acid. We show that vesicles c...
