Pulsed X-ray Emission from The Fastest Millisecond Pulsar PSR B1937+21 with ASCA
We have detected pulsed X-ray emission from the fastest millisecond pulsar known, PSR B1937+21 (P =1.558 msec), with ASCA. The pulsar is detected as a point source above ∼ 1.7 keV, with no indication of nebulosity. The source flux in the 2–10 keV band is found to be f = (3.7 ± 0.6) × 10 erg s cm, which implies an isotropic luminosity of Lx = 4πD f ∼ (5.7 ± 1.0) × 10 (D/3.6 kpc) erg s, where D i...
متن کاملDetection of pulsed X-ray emission from the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232
We report the detection of pulsed X-ray emission from the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232 in a 100 ks ROSAT HRI observation. The lightcurve deviates from a flat distribution at a ∼ 4.8σ level, showing a sharp main pulse with a duty cycle of ∼ 0.15 (350μs), compatible with smearing due to the scatter in the ROSAT clock calibration. The intrinsic width can be smaller than 100μs. There is...
متن کاملThe likely detection of pulsed high-energy γ-ray emission from millisecond pulsar PSR J0218+4232
We report circumstantial evidence for the first detection of pulsed high-energy γ-ray emission from a millisecond pulsar, PSR J0218+4232, using data collected with the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment (EGRET) on board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO). The EGRET source 3EG J0222+4253 is shown to be spatially consistent with PSR J0218+4232 for the energy range 100–300 MeV. Above 1 GeV the n...
متن کاملSpectral and timing properties of the X - ray emission from the millisecond pulsar PSR B 1821 − 24
We report results on the timing and spectral analysis of observations of the millisecond pulsar PSR B1821−24 with RXTE, BeppoSAX and Chandra. The X-ray light curve is characterized by two narrow peaks at a phase distance of 0.452 ± 0.002. The average pulsed emission, over the range 1.6–20 keV, is well represented by a single power law with a photon index α = 1.30 −0.02 +0.05 and unabsorbed (2–1...
متن کاملPulsar Wind Nebulae and the Non-thermal X-Ray Emission of Millisecond Pulsars
The non-thermal, non-pulsed X-ray emission of MSPs is investigated. As in young pulsars, MSPs emit a relativistic wind, which interacting with the interstellar medium and/or a binary companion can significantly contribute to the non-pulsed emission of these pulsars. An application and extension of a simple model developed for young pulsars is applied to the old recycled MSP B1957+20. It is foun...
