چکیده
Abstract Compliant mechanisms (CMs) are used to transfer motion, force, and energy, taking advantages of the elastic deformation involved compliant members. A branch special type phenomenon called (post) buckling has been widely considered in CMs: avoiding for better payload-bearing capacity utilizing post-buckling produce multi-stable states. This paper digs into essence beam’s behaviors where we start from famous Euler–Bernoulli beam theory then extend mentioned linear geometrically nonlinear one handle multi-mode problems via introducing concept bifurcation theory. Five representative cases studied this paper, followed by detailed theoretical investigations their multi-state property proved. We finally propose a novel bi-stable termed as pre-buckled (PBMs) that integrate features both rigid mechanisms. The insights PBMs presented detail. To best our knowledge, is first study on derivation kinematic models PBMs, which could be an important contribution field.

Thermal buckling and post-buckling of FGM Timoshenko beams on nonlinear elastic foundation
Buckling and post-buckling thermomechanical deformations of a functionally graded material (FGM) Timoshenko beam resting on a two-parameter nonlinear elastic foundation and subjected to only a temperature rise have been numerically investigated with the shooting method. The material properties are assumed to vary only in the thickness direction according to a power law function. Through-the-thi...
متن کاملBuckling and Post-buckling Analysis of FG-CNTRC Beams: An Exact Closed Form Solution
The present work derives the exact analytical solutions for buckling and post-buckling analysis of nano-composite beams reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and principle of virtual work. The reinforcements are considered to be aligned in the polymeric matrix either unifor...
متن کاملNonlinear Buckling and Post-buckling of Shape Memory Alloy Shallow Arches
In this work, the nonlinear buckling and post-buckling behavior of shallow arches made of Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) is investigated. Arches are susceptible to large deflections, due to their slenderness, especially when the external load exceeds the serviceability limit point. Beyond this, loss of stability may occur, the famous snap-through buckling. For this reason, curved beams can be used in...
متن کاملNonlinear Stochastic Dynamical Post-buckling Analysis of Uncertain Cylindrical Shells
This paper presents the nonlinear dynamical post-buckling analysis of an uncertain cylindrical shell. The proposed approach is adapted to the dynamical analysis of geometrically nonlinear structures subjected to a stochastic ground-based motion in the presence of both system parameter uncertainties and model uncertainties. The structure is modeled by a large finite element model using 3D elasti...
متن کاملDiscontinuous Buckling of Wide Beams and Metabeams.
We uncover how nonlinearities dramatically alter the buckling of elastic beams. First, we show experimentally that sufficiently wide ordinary elastic beams and specifically designed metabeams-beams made from a mechanical metamaterial-exhibit discontinuous buckling, an unstable form of buckling where the postbuckling stiffness is negative. Then we use simulations to uncover the crucial role of n...
