The wake of a rectangular flat plate

چکیده
Abstract The mean wake of a three-dimensional surface-mounted rectangular flat plate was studied experimentally in low-speed wind tunnel for four different aspect (height-to-width) ratios, AR = 3, 2, 1, and 0.5. Reynolds number based on the width Re 3.8 × 10 4 boundary layer thickness ground plane, relative to width, δ / W 1.1. incidence angle varied from α 0° (where is normal flow) 90° parallel flow). velocity vorticity fields were measured using seven-hole pressure probe. At 0°, length recirculation zone behind becomes progressively shorter as ratio lowered follows same tendency that finite square prism. wakes slenderer plates 3 2 are characterised by two pairs streamwise vortices: pair tip vortices upper ground-plane lower edges wake. With increasing angle, single vortex comes dominate wake, secondary induced at various locations, ‘traffic light’ pattern may form, ultimately familiar wing-tip (trailing) develops. In contrast, flow downstream less slender 1 0.5 large vortices, which become asymmetric with incidence. Close 0.5, small angles only, unique inner concentrations, opposite sense rotation main found part

Stability Analysis for Wake Flow Behind a Flat Plate
Neutral stability limits for wake flow behind a flat plate is studied using spectral method. First, Orr-Sommerfeld equation was changed to matrix form, covering the whole domain of solution. Next, each term of matrix was expanded using Chebyshev expansion series, a series very much equivalent to the Fourier cosine series. A group of functions and conditions are applied to start and end points i...

متن کاملFinite disturbance effect on the stability of a laminar incompressible wake behind a flat plate
An integral method is used to investigate the interaction between a twodimensional, single frequency finite amplitude disturbance in a laminar, incompressible wake behind a flat plate at zero incidence. The mean flow is assumed to be a non-parallel flow characterized by a few shape parameters. Distribution of the fluctuation across the wake is obtained as functions of those mean flow parameters...
متن کاملA Computational Wear Model of the Oblique Impact of a Ball on a Flat Plate
Many wearing processes are a result of the oblique impacts. Knowing the effective impact parameters on the wear mechanism would be helpful to have the more reliable designs. The H-DD (Hertz-Di Maio Di Renzo) nonlinear model of impact followed by the time increment procedure is used to simulate the impact process of a ball on a flat plate. Restitution parameters are extracted and compared with t...
متن کاملUnsteady contact melting of a rectangular cross-section material on a flat plate
The work in this paper concerns a mathematical model of the contact melting process of a rectangular material in contact with a hot plate. The problem is described by a coupled system of heat equations in the solid and melt layer, fluid flow in the melt, a Stefan condition at the melt interface, and a force balance between the weight of the solid and the fluid pressure. Since the melt layer rem...
