The use of intellectual property right bundles and firm performance in China

Abstract Intellectual property rights (IPRs) have become increasingly important for firms in today’s knowledge-based economy, as evidenced by the strong growth their use. The vital role of IPRs has motivated research into association with firm performance. However, few firm-level studies been conducted developing countries. Moreover, empirical on use IPR bundles and economic performance are scarce. To fill this gap, study first illuminates how joint different varies characteristics, second, it analyses such performance, based a constructed large dataset that merges information from China’s Annual Survey Industrial Enterprises data filings China National Property Administration. Results indicate is strongly correlated industrial sector size. Firms also much greater than those rely only single types, indicating existing complementarity between these rights. This advances understanding relationship emphasises complementary effect types IPRs, demonstrating significance utilising various intellectual mechanisms fully to increase firms’ competitive advantages.
