The timing of pasture allocation and grass silage supplementation affect pasture intake, milk production and nitrogen partitioning of dairy cows

Aim of study: To evaluate the effect time pasture allocation (PA) and grass silage allocations on dry matter (DM) intake, grazing behaviour, milk production, rumen function N partitioning dairy cows.Area Valdivia, ChileMaterial methods: Forty-five Holstein-Friesian cows were selected from Austral Agricultural Research Station at Universidad de Chile. Cows allocated to one three treatments: MPA: 75% PA 25% allowance in morning; BPA: 50% APA: morning. All treatments received complement afternoon. a daily 21 kg DM, 3 DM 3.5 concentrate.Main results: Grazing was not affected by treatments, however, between afternoon-morning milking longer for APA. intake production modified averaging 15.6 DM/cow 22.7 milk/d, respectively. Rumen propionate greater BPA than APA (18.8 17.7 mmol/100 mol, respectively). excretion throughout milk, urine feces 458, 119, 195 144 g N/d, respectively.Research highlights: The combination is an adequate strategy modify cows.
