The tensile strength of volcanic rocks: Experiments and models

چکیده
The tensile strength of volcanic rock exerts control over several key processes, including fragmentation and magma chamber rupture. Despite its importance, there is a paucity laboratory data for the rocks, leading to an incomplete understanding influence microstructural parameters, such as pore size shape (factors that vary widely rocks), on their strength. To circumvent problems associated with variability natural samples, we provide here systematic study in which use elastic damage mechanics code “Rock Failure Process Analysis” perform numerical experiments better understand porosity, diameter, aspect ratio, orientation rocks. We find porosity diameter exert first-order ratio also Tensile reduced by up factor two increased from 0.05 0.35 or 1 2 mm. On Applicability of Some Indirect Tests for Estimation of Tensile Strength of Anisotropic Rocks
The tensile strength of rocks plays a noteworthy role in their failure mechanism, and its determination can be beneficial in optimizing the design of the rock structures. Schistose rocks due to their inherent anisotropy in different foliation directions show a diverse strength at each direction. The purpose of this work was to compare and assess the tensile strength of phyllite, which was obtai...
متن کاملMineral chemistry and thermobarometry of Eocene Alkaline volcanic rocks in the Southwest of Germi, NW Iran
Petrography and chemistry of minerals showing that Eocene alkaline volcanic rocks in southwestern of Germi (Talesh zone, NW Iran) mostly have basaltic composition. Mineralogically these rocks are composed of diopsidic clinopyroxene and labradoritic plagioclase phenocrysts. The microlithic and glassy groundmass composed of sanidine, clinopyroxene, biotite, pargasitic amphibole and magnetite asso...
متن کاملPetrology and Geochemistry of the Eocene Volcanic Rocks in the West of Sechangi, Lut Block
The Eocene volcanic rocks exposed in the NW Sechangi area of Lut block, include pyroclastic deposits and lavas. These volcanic rocks are basalt, basaltic andesite, andesite, andesite-trachyandesite, trachydacite, dacite and rhyolite-ignimbrite in composition. Based on our field observations, the volcanic rocks erupted in four stages in the aquous to subaerial environments. The volcanic rocks ar...
متن کاملthe effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)
cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
