The Southern Ocean Radiolarian (SO-RAD) dataset: a new compilation of modern radiolarian census data

چکیده
Abstract. Radiolarians (holoplanktonic protozoa) preserved in marine sediments are commonly used as palaeoclimate proxies for reconstructing past Southern Ocean environments. Generating reconstructions of climate based on microfossil abundances, such radiolarians, requires a spatially and environmentally comprehensive reference dataset modern census counts. The Radiolarian (SO-RAD) includes counts 238 radiolarian taxa from 228 surface sediment samples located the Atlantic, Indian, southwest Pacific sectors Ocean. This compilation is largest derived SO-RAD may be palaeoceanographic reconstructions, or studying biogeography species diversity. As well describing data collection collation, we include recommendations guidelines cleaning subsetting users unfamiliar with procedures typically by community. available to download https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.929903 (Lawler et al., 2021).

Sediment mixing in the tropical Pacific and radiolarian stratigraphy
[1] The reworking of older radiolarian microfossils into near-surface sediments of the tropical Pacific has long been the source of confusion for the development of radiolarian stratigraphy and of puzzlement over the mechanism(s) that could effect such pervasive reworking. Widespread dissolution “pits” in the sediments of the tropical Pacific are believed to be associated with hydrothermal circ...
متن کاملBiogeochemical signatures preserved in ancient siliceous sediments; new perspectives to Triassic radiolarian bedded chert compositions
Major and minor elements of successively collected 70 Middle Triassic radiolarian bedded cherts from the Mino Belt in central Japan were studied. In order to reveal pre-diagenetic, primary geochemical signatures related to marine biogeochemical cycles, composite data of chert-shale couplets in addition to raw data were examined. The results show that Mn, Cu, Sr, Ba and P were supplied significa...
متن کاملLODStats: The Data Web Census Dataset
Over the past years, the size of the Data Web has increased significantly, which makes obtaining general insights into its growth and structure both more challenging and more desirable. The lack of such insights hinders important data management tasks such as quality, privacy and coverage analysis. In this paper, we present the LODStats dataset, which provides a comprehensive picture of the cur...
متن کاملIsolation of symbiotically expressed genes from the dinoflagellate symbiont of the solitary radiolarian Thalassicolla nucleata.
Symbiotic associations are fundamental to the survival of many organisms on Earth. The ability of the symbiont to perform key biochemical functions often allows the host to occupy environments that it would otherwise find inhospitable. This can have profound impacts upon the diversification and distribution of the host. Cellular organelles (chloroplasts and mitochondria) represent the final sta...
متن کاملDistribution of Polycystine Radiolarians in Bottom Surface Sediments and Its Relation to Summer Sea Temperature in the High-Latitude North Atlantic
An objective of the study is to get new biogeographic information on the modern polycystine radiolarians from the high-latitude North Atlantic. The quantitative radiolarian dataset was compiled from publications and own micropaleontological counts from samples of the bottom surface sediments of the North Atlantic north of 40N and Nordic Seas. Standard statistical treatment of micropaleontologic...
