The Sense of Smell in Logopaedic Theory and Practice

Olfactory disorders concern many diseases of laryngological, neurological, oncological and gerontological origins, sometimes are one the diagnostic symptoms a serious illness. The aim this article is to describe sense smell (anatomy, physiology, functions, etiology characteristics disorders) and, in particular, present context logopedic theory practice. Speech therapists may inter alia assess functioning on basis an interview with patient or caregiver, make general evaluation smell, using different olfactory samples. As part speech therapy, include stimulation through various exercises, e.g. odour differentiation exercises guessing naming odours, differentiating intensity, searching source smell.
