The secret morphology of Tashlhiyt Berber

چکیده
Abstract Two secret languages used in Tashlhiyt Berber are reported work by Douchaïna (1996, 1998) and Lahrouchi & Ségéral (2009, 2010ab): Tagnawt Taqjmit. I propose that they should both be analyzed as instances of prosodic morphology, employing the same morpheme [L.LL.L]. Prosodic morphemes common regular morphology Tashlhiyt: foot [LL] for imperfective Tifrdi, word [H.H] Ukris, [L.H.L] Tirrugza, Abnakli Azddayru (Jebbour 1999, Dell Elmedlaoui 1992). The shape [L.LL.L] fills out paradigm a variant [L.H.L], which appears marginally languages. shapes found also verse metrics, where form natural class feet, alternating with anapest [LL.H] (Dell 2008, Riad 2017). Based part on striking parallels Tashlhiyt, argue there is an organic connection between categories employed verse. Furthermore, simultaneous structures we find metrics—regular prosody meter—are applicable to particularly clearly so root-and-pattern formations.

The Association of Tones in Tashlhiyt Berber
In this study we investigate the nature and distribution of an Intonation Phrase medial H tone in Tashlhiyt Berber. We analyse it as a right edge tone of an Accentual Phrase with a secondary association to a syllable with a sonorant nucleus. In the absence of such a syllable in the target word, H may align with a transitional vocoid, although its location is highly variable. Since these vocoids...
متن کاملImdlawn Tashlhiyt Berber Syllabification is Quantifier-Free∗
Imdlawn Tashlhiyt Berber (ITB) is unusual due to its tolerance of non-vocalic syllabic nuclei. Rule-based and constraint-based accounts of ITB syllabification do not directly address the question of how complex the process is. Model theory and formal logic allow for comparison of complexity across different theories of phonology by identifying the computational power (or expressivity) of lingui...
متن کاملDifferential Difficulties in Perception of Tashlhiyt Berber Consonant Quantity Contrasts by Native Tashlhiyt Listeners vs. Berber-Naïve French Listeners
In a discrimination experiment on several Tashlhiyt Berber singleton-geminate contrasts, we find that French listeners encounter substantial difficulty compared to native speakers. Native listeners of Tashlhiyt perform near ceiling level on all contrasts. French listeners perform better on final contrasts such as fit-fitt than initial contrasts such as bi-bbi or sir-ssir. That is, French listen...
