The role of circadian rhythms in individuals with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and obesity: A narrative review

Background. A relationship between attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obesity has been consistently documented. Obesity metabolic syndrome have associated with misalignment daily activities circadian rhythm. ADHD patients a high prevalence of delayed sleep phase syndrome, which is rhythm disorder. Understanding this important for the evaluation obese population at risk. Objective. The aim narrative review was to summarize information updated until 2019 about role rhythms in individuals. Method. search performed MEDLINE, EMBASE, Google Scholar database. terms ADHD, obesity, rhythm, disorders, adolescent, adult, Adolesc, circadian, disorder, child were combined logical functions. Results. total 132 articles reviewed. Evidence showed that subjects an increased risk present disorders. Some possible pathways hypothesized including as factor, underpinned common biological dysfunction, behavioral cognitive features individuals ADHD. As most are methodologically cross-sectional, it not establish causative associations. Discussion conclusion. This points out importance early recognizing treating disorders patients.
