The relative growth of optical and radio quasars in SDSS
We cross-correlate the SDSS DR3 quasar sample with FIRST and the Vestergaard et al. black hole (BH) mass sample to compare the mean accretion histories of optical and radio quasars. We find significant statistical evidence that radio quasars have a higher mean Eddington ratio λ at z > 2 with respect to optical quasars, while the situation is clearly reverse at z < 1. At z > 2 radio quasars happ...
متن کاملOptical selection of quasars: SDSS and LSST
Over the last decade, quasar sample sizes have increased from several thousand to several hundred thousand, thanks mostly to SDSS imaging and spectroscopic surveys. LSST, the next-generation optical imaging survey, will provide hundreds of detections per object for a sample of more than ten million quasars with redshifts of up to about seven. We briefly review optical quasar selection technique...
متن کاملThe Radio and Optical Luminosity Evolution of Quasars II -- The SDSS Sample
We determine the radio and optical luminosity evolutions and the true distribution of the radio-loudness parameter R, defined as the ratio of the radio to optical luminosity, for a set of more than 5000 quasars combining Sloan Digital Sky Survey optical and Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty cm (FIRST) radio data. We apply the method of Efron and Petrosian to access the intrinsic distribut...
متن کاملMBH - σ relation in SDSS flat-spectrum radio quasars
The relationship between the black hole mass and velocity dispersion indicated with [O III] line width is investigated for a sample of 87 flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) selected from SDSS DR3 quasar catalogue. We found the Mbh − σ[OIII] relation is deviated from Tremaine et al. relation for nearby inactive galaxies, with a larger black hole mass at given velocity dispersion. There is no st...
متن کاملFlat-Spectrum Radio Quasars from SDSS DR3 Quasar Catalogue
We constructed a sample of 185 Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars (FSRQs) by crosscorrelating the Shen et al.’s SDSS DR3 X-ray quasar sample with FIRST and GB6 radio catalogues. From the spectrum energy distribution (SED) constructed using multi-band (radio, UV, optical, Infrared and X-ray) data, we derived the synchrotron peak frequency and peak luminosity. The black hole mass MBH and the broad line ...
