The Rapid Chloride Migration Test in Assessing the Chloride Penetration Resistance of Normal and Lightweight Concrete

Chloride-induced corrosion has been one of the main causes reinforced concrete deterioration. One most used methods in assessing chloride penetration resistance is rapid migration test (RCMT). This an expeditious and simple method but may not be representative transport behaviour real environment. Other methods, like immersion (IT) wetting–drying tests (WDT), allow for a more accurate approach to reality, are laborious very time-consuming. paper aims analyse capacity RCMT common produced with different types aggregate (normal lightweight) paste composition (variable type binder water/binder ratio). To this end, results were compared those obtained from same concretes under long-term IT WDT. A reasonable correlation between diffusion was found, when slow-reactive supplementary materials or porous lightweight aggregates surrounded by weak pastes considered. poorer found exposed conditions.
