The psychological therapy preferences of patients who hear voices

Background Voice-hearing is a common, phenomenologically diverse, experience across different mental health diagnoses. Patient preferences for psychological therapies are helpful in informing treatment commissioning and provision, especially the context of complex variable experiences like voice-hearing. There is, however, very limited evidence as to therapy transdiagnostic voice-hearers.Methods Three-hundred thirty-five voice hearers were recruited from secondary care NHS services England, between 2020 2022. Participants completed questionnaire battery, involving preference survey. ranked their categories practical, technical relational elements. Therapy examined using non-parametric ANOVAs significance pairwise comparisons elements.Results significant differences all Clear hierarchies observed location, timing, delivery, approach. Preferences evident, albeit with less clear vertical hierarchies, number sessions, mode, therapist qualities, focus, tasks outcomes.Discussion Overall, participants expressed individual, face-to-face intervention at least nine highly experienced core focus on enhancing coping strategies voice-hearing experiences.
