The Presence of Neurological Soft Signs Along the Psychosis Proneness Continuum
Neurological soft signs have been observed in patients with schizophrenia and their relatives. However, it has not been considered whether the increased rates of neurological soft signs are related to measures of psychosis proneness in the general population. We tested this hypothesis in a group of normal volunteers (n = 28) who scored highly for positive schizotypy when assessed online and a c...
متن کاملNeurological soft signs in adolescents with first episode psychosis.
The purpose of this study is to determine the decrease of neurological soft signs (NSS) during adolescence and to compare this evolutionary process in two groups of adolescents with first episode psychosis: a) schizophrenia and b) non-schizophrenia patients. The structured neurological evaluation scale (NES) was administered to 24 adolescents with first episode psychosis. The number of NSS, the...
متن کاملThe 2-year stability of neurological soft signs after a first episode of non-affective psychosis.
We examined the 2-year stability of neurological soft signs (NSS) in 29 patients after a first episode of psychosis. The numbers of NSS at inclusion and at 2 years follow-up were similar, but there was a significant increase in the numbers of NSS in the sub-group of patients whose dosage of antipsychotic medication had increased over time.
متن کاملAttachment, Neurobiology, and Mentalizing along the Psychosis Continuum
In this review article, we outline the evidence linking attachment adversity to psychosis, from the premorbid stages of the disorder to its clinical forms. To better understand the neurobiological mechanisms through which insecure attachment may contribute to psychosis, we identify at least five neurobiological pathways linking attachment to risk for developing psychosis. Besides its well docum...
متن کاملThe clinical correlates of neurological soft signs in chronic schizophrenia.
Among 16 chronic schizophrenic in-patients, all had at least one neurological soft sign (NSS), and 6 (40%) had definite neurodysfunction. NSS and TD scores were highly intercorrelated, and NSS were significantly correlated with neuroleptic drug exposure. NSS correlated positively with both positive and negative symptoms and cognitive impairment but not with cerebral ventricular size on CT. Pati...
