The potential of sugarcane bagasse polymer composite for sustainable of Stevia rebaudiana productivity under deficit irrigation

Recycling of ligno-cellulosic residues and economically viable crops production with improved water use efficiency is imperative to secure high-quality sustainable food implement the environmental sustainability. Therefore, objective this work was evaluate superabsorbent sugarcane bagasse polymer composite (SBP) on Stevia rebaudiana quality under deficit irrigation. The experiment conducted at Sabahia Agricultural Research Station, Alexandria, Egypt during two seasons 2017/2018 2018/2019 greenhouse conditions. Three SBP treatments (0.0, 2.0 4.0 g/5 kg soils) using three irrigation levels (100%, 70% 50% field capacity) were applied. Data revealed that soil amendment enhanced gave highest values stevia growth parameters, chlorophyll, total soluble carbohydrate steviol glycoside (SVglys) both systems in seasons. dosage 2 4% into led an increase dry leaves yield by 1.5 1.32 fold, respectively compared untreated capacity. Calculated SVglys determined IR high 2.0% (15.60%) 100% nearly closed level (15.02%). application conditions increased amount WUE showed improvement peroxidase isozyme system can be used as a biomarker for characterizing drought stress tolerance.
