The Portofino Conglomerate (Eastern Liguria, Northern Italy): Provenance, Age and Geodynamic Implications

چکیده

The Portofino Conglomerate (PC) cropping out in the Eastern Liguria is an approximately 500 m thick, very gently folded succession mainly composed of poorly bedded and mostly matrix-supported conglomerates. It stratigraphically rests on Helminthoid Flysch (UA3) thrusted onto Antola Unit. We vertically distinguished three ruditic litho/petrofacies: (i) Paraggi (fP) with carbonate clasts from succession; (ii) Monte Pallone (fMP) prevailing meta-carbonate minor quartz-rich (meta)siliciclastic high-pressure–low-pressure (HP-LP) metabasite clasts; (iii) Bocche (fMB) dominant (meta)siliciclastic, clasts, granitoid elements medium-temperature–high-temperature (MT-HT) regional metamorphic rocks. middle-upper Eocen age litho/petrofacies constrained by well-preserved microforaminifers (e.g., Globigerinatheka) recovered matrix. During its sedimentation, directions paleocurrents would indicate that PC underwent a counterclockwise rotation coeval first Cenozoic rotational phase Sardinia–Corsica system (50–30 Ma) then stopped before sedimentation litho/petrofacies. vertical compositional variation sedimentary inputs suggested result progressive deepening erosional level tectonic pile can be located Ligurian Alps Chain. considered as likely apical part submarine fan deposited piggy-back/thrust-top basin within Alpine nappe stack. This body was later tectonically transported eastward UA3 substrate (similarly to Epiligurian Units Northern Apennines) Apenninic orogenic (i.e., Unit).

The occurrence of taeniids of wolves in Liguria (northern Italy)

Canids are definitive hosts of Taenia and Echinococcus species, which infect a variety of mammals as intermediate or accidental hosts including humans. Parasite transmission is based on domestic, semi-domestic and wildlife cycles; however, little is known of the epidemiological significance of wild large definitive hosts such as the wolf. In this study, 179 scats of wolves (Canis lupus italicus...

Seismic azimuthal anisotropy beneath the eastern United States and its geodynamic implications

Systematic spatial variations of anisotropic characteristics are revealed beneath the eastern U.S. using seismic data recorded between 1988 and 2016 by 785 stations. The resulting fast polarization orientations of the 5613 measurements are generally subparallel to the absolute plate motion (APM) and are inconsistent with the strike of major tectonic features. This inconsistency, together with t...

Inorganic raw materials economy and provenance of chipped industry in some stone age sites of northern and central Italy.

An opportunistic and local choice of raw materials is typically attested in the Lower and Middle Paleolithic industries throughout Italy. The quality of the raw material usually affected the flaking technology and quality of the products. In the Upper Paleolithic and the Mesolithic, raw material procurement strategies were more complex. Flint was exploited both locally, in areas where abundant ...

Crop changes from the XVI century to the present in a hill/mountain area of eastern Liguria (Italy)

BACKGROUND Chronological information on the composition and structure of agrocenoses and detailed features of land cover referring to specific areas are uncommon in ethnobotanical studies, especially for periods before the XIX century. The aim of this study was to analyse the type of crop or the characteristics of soil cover from the XVI century to the present. METHODS This diachronic analysi...

Apatite fission track age of Mesozoic sandstones from Beipiao basin, eastern China: Implications for basin provenance and tectonic evolution

The apatite fission track (FT) analysis of Jurassic sandstones from the Beipiao basin in the eastern China indicates a large variation in FT age peaks. The sandstone of the Beipiao Formation has two peak ages at 178.8 and 40.0 Ma, while the sandstone of the Tuchengzi Formation has three age peaks at 152.0, 77.5 and 32.5 Ma. This implies that the provenance of the Beipiao basin in the early Jura...
