The new Checklist of the Italian Fauna: marine Mollusca

The mollusc fauna of the Mediterranean Sea is still considered as best-known marine in world. previous modern checklists Mollusca were produced by joint teams amateurs and professionals. During last years Italian Society Malacology (Società Italiana di Malacologia – S.I.M.) maintained an updated version checklist, that served backbone for development new checklist. According to current (updated on April 1st, 2021), 1,777 recognised species molluscs are present Economic Exclusive Zone, including also Tyrrhenian coasts Corsica continental shelf Maltese archipelago. checklist shows increase 17% reported 1995 Checklist. This largely (yet not solely) due wave studies based Integrative Taxonomy approaches. A total 135 (7.6%) strictly endemic waters; 44 (2.5%) alien correspond 28% molluscs. All eight extant molluscan classes represented. families represented 307, 14.6% from first partly records phylogenetic systematics. Compared with whole mal-acofauna, component represents 71% 61% families, which makes it a very remarkable part fauna.&nbsp
