The Media Literacy of Teenagers

In this paper, we present the conceptual framework, objectives, and methodology of an interdisciplinary research program (2018–2022) on media literacy competence teenagers in French-speaking Belgium, Quebec, France, Switzerland. The is undertaken by researchers four universities, one each national context. Focusing information search multimodal production as core activities, develops a multi-level assessment method to measure at varying levels complexity. Additionally, relate task-based measures with self-reported practices seek document influence students’ interpretation tasks contexts purposes, their motivation feeling empowerment, collaborative exercise literacy. Preliminary results reveal that students report substantially higher than web production; however, difference reduced when assess ability perform specific search-related or production-related actions. These are discussed light potential usefulness for teachers curricular design.
