The influence of Pacific-North American teleconnection on the North Pacific SST anomalies in Wintertime under the global warming

چکیده

Abstract The impact of the enhancing Pacific-North American teleconnection (PNA) on intensity first mode SST anomalies (SSTa) in wintertime North Pacific [known as decadal oscillation (PDO)-like pattern] under global warming is studied using reanalysis datasets and 12 selected CMIP5 models. robust observational result PNA one month ahead PDO shows that has a great effect PDO-like SSTa. intensities are defined with elimination ENSO signals to evaluate direct warming. By comparing RCP8.5 historical scenario multi-models (PNA enhanced models), future projection illustrates will intensify 2.2 times its internal variability. Approximately 67% increase variations contributed by PNA-induced SSTa ensemble mean. Models stronger intensification variability tends have larger magnitude response Pacific, which more contributions enhancement change warmer climate. This may shed some light relative role forcing

Influences of a shift in North Pacific storm tracks on western North American precipitation under global warming

Recent global climate model simulations for the IPCC Fourth Assessment report show a realistic North Pacific storm track and Aleutian Low for the present-day climate conditions. Under climate change, the storm track and Aleutian Low move northward and intensify. These changes shift precipitation northward along the Pacific coast of North America. In particular, precipitation is intensified over...

Global Warming Patterns over the North Pacific: ENSO versus AO

The relationships between the natural variability and CO2-induced response over the Pacific region are investigated in terms of the spatial anomaly pattern of SST, sea level pressure and precipitation by a multi-model intercomparison analysis, based on the 18-model results contributing to the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report. The analysis indicates that the CO2-induced response pattern is related ...

Bjerknes-like Compensation in the Wintertime North Pacific

Observational and model evidence has been mounting that mesoscale eddies play an important role in air– sea interaction in the vicinity of western boundary currents and can affect the jet stream storm track. What is less clear is the interplay between oceanic and atmospheric meridional heat transport in the vicinity of western boundary currents. It is first shown that variability in the North P...

Global Warming Attenuates the Tropical Atlantic-Pacific Teleconnection

Changes in global sea surface temperature (SST) since the end of last century display a pattern of widespread warming intercepted by cooling in the eastern equatorial Pacific and western coasts of the American continent. Studies have suggested that the cooling in the eastern equatorial Pacific may be partly induced by warming in the North Atlantic. However, it remains unknown how stable this in...

Global Warming–Induced Changes in El Niño Teleconnections over the North Pacific and North America

El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) induces climate anomalies around the globe. Atmospheric general circulation model simulations are used to investigate how ENSO-induced teleconnection patterns during boreal winter might change in response to global warming in the Pacific–North American sector. As models disagree on changes in the amplitude and spatial pattern of ENSO in response to global war...
