The InBIO barcoding initiative database: DNA barcodes of Iberian Trichoptera, documenting biodiversity for freshwater biomonitoring in a Mediterranean hotspot

چکیده

The Trichoptera are an important component of freshwater ecosystems. In the Iberian Peninsula, 380 taxa caddisflies known, with nearly 1/3 total species being endemic in region. A reference collection morphologically identified specimens, representing 142 taxa, was constructed. InBIO Barcoding Initiative (IBI) 01 dataset contains records 438 sequenced specimens. this correspond to about 37% diversity. Specimens were collected between 1975 and 2018 deposited IBI at CIBIO (Research Center Biodiversity Genetic Resources, Portugal) or Marcos A. González University Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Twenty-nine species, from nine different families, new additions Barcode Life Data System (BOLD). success identification rate over 80% achieved when comparing morphological identifications DNA barcodes for analysed. This encouraging step advances incorporation informed Environmental tools biomonitoring schemes, given shortcomings larvae adult Caddisflies such studies. barcoding not successful identifying six genera: Hydropsyche (Hydropsychidae), Athripsodes (Leptoceridae), Wormaldia (Philopotamidae), Polycentropus (Polycentropodidae) Rhyacophila (Rhyacophilidae) Sericostoma (Sericostomatidae). high levels intraspecific genetic variability found, combined a lack barcode gap challenging identification, rendered these as needing additional studies resolve their taxonomy.

DNA BARCODING DNA barcodes for globally threatened marine turtles: a registry approach to documenting biodiversity

DNA barcoding is a global initiative that provides a standardized and efficient tool to catalogue and inventory biodiversity, with significant conservation applications. Despite progress across taxonomic realms, globally threatened marine turtles remain underrepresented in this effort. To obtain DNA barcodes of marine turtles, we sequenced a segment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) g...

Spatial heterogeneity in the Mediterranean Biodiversity Hotspot affects barcoding accuracy of its freshwater fishes.

Incomplete knowledge of biodiversity remains a stumbling block for conservation planning and even occurs within globally important Biodiversity Hotspots (BH). Although technical advances have boosted the power of molecular biodiversity assessments, the link between DNA sequences and species and the analytics to discriminate entities remain crucial. Here, we present an analysis of the first DNA ...

DNA Barcoding for Honey Biodiversity

Honey is produced by honeybees from nectar and from secretions of living plants. It reflects the honeybees’ diet and the local plant communities. Honey also shows different plant compositions in different geographical locations. We propose a new method for studying the plant diversity and the geographical origin of honey using a DNA barcoding approach that combines universal primers and massive...

Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera fauna of Churchill (Manitoba, Canada): insights into biodiversity patterns from DNA barcoding

The insect orders Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) are particularly important for freshwater ecological and biomonitoring studies, but difficulties in their identification to species level impede research. DNA barcoding provides a solution to this problem by linking newly collected specimens to a reference library of authoritatively identified specimens. Here, we consider the wa...
