The importance of resource security for poverty eradication

As humanity’s demand on natural resources is increasingly exceeding Earth’s biological rate of regeneration, environmental deterioration such as greenhouse gas accumulation in the atmosphere, ocean acidification and groundwater depletion accelerating. a result, capacity ecosystems to renew biomass, herein referred ‘biocapacity’, becoming material bottleneck for human economy. Yet, economic development theory practice continue underplay importance resources, most notably ones. We analysed unequal exposure national economies biocapacity constraints. found that growing number people live countries with both deficits below-average income. Low income thwarts these economies’ ability compete needed global market. By 2017, 72% humanity lived countries. This trend not only erodes their possibilities maintaining progress but also eliminates chances eradicating poverty, situation we call an ‘ecological poverty trap’. An analysis constraints purchasing power reveals how increasing can lead inescapable traps.
