The impacts of CO2 flooding on crude oil stability and recovery performance

Abstract Numerous studies have investigated the fundamental mechanisms by which CO 2 flooding can increase oil production altering properties of hydrocarbon fluid, including swelling, viscosity and interfacial tension reductions, extraction light-to-intermediate components. However, interactions between fluid may also cause several problems, such as asphaltene precipitation due to crude oil's instability during process. This study investigates complex factors that affect oil, injection pressures, temperatures, compositions. The light-dead samples taken from two Indonesian fields were used. impacts on displacement performance observed evaluate recovery minimum miscibility pressure (MMP). observation was performed using a slim tube under varying high-pressure injections at 90 °C 70 °C. produced oils analyzed based their polarity component, saturates, aromatics, resins, asphaltenes fractions, observe changes in composition colloidal index instability. results showed increasing temperatures given pressures resulted higher recovery. Moreover, resin fractions lower temperature significantly decrease compared those temperature. It shown tends precipitate more easily other phenomenon revealed lighter than heavier correspondingly MMP. suggested is likely light oils.
