The Human Female Paradox: Biological Disadvantage Preimplantation, Biological Advantage, Thereafter

چکیده
The vital statistics show that human females outlive males at every biological stage. Once the embryo arrives in uterus, more die stage, least until eighth decade when majority of survivors are female. Unexpectedly, same also boys born than girls, which is difficult to explain, because sperm determine sex fetus, not skewed toward males. Recently, new data reveal reason for increased number male births; they imply significant loss before fetus womb. Thereafter, there an excessive – only utero but throughout their lives. One likely differences fetal survival way humans compensate difference X chromosomes.

On the Biological Advantage of Chirality
The presence of chirality in the main molecules of life may well be not just a structural artifact, but of pure biological advantage. The possibility of the existence of a phenomenon of a special mode of interaction, labeled as " chiral interaction " (CI), for which structural chirality is a necessary condition , is the main reason for such an advantage. In order to demonstrate such a possibili...
متن کاملBiological Invasions: Paradox Lost and Paradise Gained
A new study shows how an invasive snail species accrues elevated genetic variation for key life-history traits through multiple introductions and outcrossing to create genetically novel offspring. Furthermore, the invaders' offspring follow a unique life-history strategy that may enhance their ability to invade.
متن کاملREM sleep: a biological and psychological paradox.
Sleep and rest can be satisfactorily explained as adaptive states1,2 whose core function is energy conservation and behavioral regulation. In addition to these functions, certain recuperative processes may be accomplished within sleep. However, the adaptive role of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep remains a complete mystery. The high levels of brain metabolic demand and attenuation of homeostatic...
متن کاملHispanic paradox in biological risk profiles.
OBJECTIVES We examined biological risk profiles by race, ethnicity, and nativity to evaluate evidence for a Hispanic paradox in measured health indicators. METHODS We used data on adults aged 40 years and older (n = 4206) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (1999-2002) to compare blood pressure, metabolic, and inflammatory risk profiles for Whites, Blacks, US-born and f...
متن کاملBiological control does not imply paradox.
Is the classical predator-prey theory inherently pathological? Defenders of the theory are losing ground in the debate. We will demonstrate that detractors' main argument is based on a faulty model, and that the conceptual and predictive bases of the theory are fundamentally sound.
