The Host Galaxies of Hybrid Morphology Radio Sources

نویسندگان

چکیده

Based on their differing radio morphologies, powerful galaxies can be separated into the Fanaroff-Riley I (FR-I) and II (FR-II) classes. Hybrid morphology sources (HyMoRS) contain morphologies consistent with each type of jet either side: a powerful, highly relativistic FR-II-like terminating in hotspot one side an FRI-like plume other. HyMoRS present unique opportunity to study conditions which give rise dichotomy. Using host galaxy properties, we conduct first multiwavelength investigation whether orientation explain morphology. Through optical spectroscopy mid-infrared photometry, analyze emission characteristics, evaluate broad characteristics five at intermediate redshifts (0.4 < z 1.5). The our sample have properties typical FR-II sources, suggesting that observed hybrid may caused by dense, cluster-like environment bending jets combined favorable make appear similar FR-I jet. Our results thus support hypothesis are mainly orientation.

Host Galaxies of X-shaped Radio Sources

Most radiation from galaxies containing active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is emitted not by the stars composing the galaxy, but from an active source at the galactic center, most likely a supermassive black hole. Of particular interest are radio galaxies, active galaxies that emit much of their radiation at radio wavelengths. Within each radio galaxy, an AGN powers a pair of collimated jets of rela...

Hybrid Morphology Radio Sources from FIRST survey

Abstract. The so-called HYbrid MOrphology Radio Sources (HYMORS) are a class of objects that appear to have a mixed Fanaroff-Riley (FR) morphology in a single object i.e. a HYMORS has an FR I-type lobe on one side of its nucleus and an FR II-type lobe on the other side. Because of this unique feature and given that the origin of the FR morphological dichotomy is still unclear, HYMORS may possib...

The Host Galaxies of Radio-loud and Radio-quiet Quasars

I review our knowledge of the properties of the host galaxies of radioloud and radio-quiet quasars, both in comparison to each other and in the context of the general galaxy population. It is now clear that the hosts of radio-loud and radio-quiet quasars with MV < −23.5 are virtually all massive elliptical galaxies. The masses of these spheroids are as expected given the relationship between bl...

Radio Continuum Morphology of Southern Seyfert Galaxies ⋆

We present radio observations for 29 southern Seyfert galaxies selected from a volume limited sample with cz < 3600 km s −1 , and declination δ < 0 •. Objects with declination −30 • < δ < 0 • were observed with the Very Large Array (VLA) at 6 cm (4.9 GHz) and objects with δ < −30 • were observed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) at 3.5 cm (8.6 GHz). Both the VLA and the ATCA obs...
