The Habitable-zone Planet Finder Detects a Terrestrial-mass Planet Candidate Closely Orbiting Gliese 1151: The Likely Source of Coherent Low-frequency Radio Emission from an Inactive Star

چکیده
The coherent low-frequency radio emission detected by LOFAR from Gliese 1151, a quiescent M4.5 dwarf star, has properties consistent with theoretical expectations of star-planet interactions for an Earth-sized planet on 1-5 day orbit. New near-infrared radial velocities the Habitable-zone Planet Finder (HPF) spectrometer 10m Hobby-Eberly Telescope at McDonald Observatory, combined previous HARPS-N, reveal periodic Doppler signature $m\sin i = 2.5 \pm 0.5 M_\oplus$ exoplanet 2.02-day Precise photometry Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) shows no flares or activity signature, M dwarf. While planetary transit is in TESS data, weak photometric modulation detectable $\sim2$ period. This independent detection candidate signal radial-velocity technique adds further weight to claim first star-exoplanet wavelengths, and helps validate this emerging exoplanets.

Recommended Architectures for The Terrestrial Planet Finder
The primary conclusion from an intensive, two year period of study is that with suitable technology investment, starting now, a mission to detect terrestrial planets around nearby stars could be launched within a decade. A visible light coronagraph using an 8-10 m telescope, or an infrared nulling interferometer, operated on either a ∼ 40 m structure or separated spacecraft, could survey over 1...
متن کاملAn Earth-sized planet in the habitable zone of a cool star.
The quest for Earth-like planets is a major focus of current exoplanet research. Although planets that are Earth-sized and smaller have been detected, these planets reside in orbits that are too close to their host star to allow liquid water on their surfaces. We present the detection of Kepler-186f, a 1.11 ± 0.14 Earth-radius planet that is the outermost of five planets, all roughly Earth-size...
متن کاملTerrestrial Planet Finder: Technology Development Plans
One of humanity's oldest questions is whether life exists elsewhere in the universe. The Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) mission will survey stars in our stellar neighborhood to search for planets and perform spectroscopic measurements to identify potential biomarkers in their atmospheres. In response to the recently published President's Plan for Space Exploration, TPF has plans to launch a vi...
متن کاملOptical SETI with NASA’s Terrestrial Planet Finder
NASA’s space-borne nulling interferometer (the Terrestrial Planet Finder – TPF) will look for the traces of early life in the infrared spectra of extrasolar planets, beginning in roughly 2010. We point out that this instrument will also be sensitive to deliberate laser transmissions from a technologically advanced civilization. A kilowatt-class infrared laser with a 10-m beam director would pro...
متن کاملHabitable - zone super - Earth candidate in a six - planet system around the K 2 . 5 V star HD 40307
Context. The K2.5 dwarf HD 40307 has been reported to host three super-Earths. The system lacks massive planets and is therefore a potential candidate for having additional low-mass planetary companions. Aims. We re-derive Doppler measurements from public HARPS spectra of HD 40307 to confirm the significance of the reported signals using independent data analysis methods. We also investigate th...
