The fractions of post-binary-interaction stars and evolved blue straggler stars on the red giant branch of globular clusters

چکیده

The red giant branch (RGB) of globular clusters (GCs) is home to some exotic stars, which may provide clues on the formation multiple stellar populations in GCs. It well known that binary interactions are responsible for many stars. Thus, it important understand what fraction stars RGB GCs result interactions. In this paper, we performed a population synthesis study track number post-binary-interaction (post-BI) appear RGB, with particular emphasis evolved blue straggler (E-BSSs). Assuming an initial nearly 50%, find about half objects (called giants) underwent interactions, and E-BSSs account around 10% giants our standard simulation. We also compare properties post-BI from different channels. orbital period mass ratio distributions significantly affect giants. Our results imply non-standard non-negligible contribution GCs, should be considered future investigations origin populations.

The Chemical Composition of Red Giant Branch Stars in the Galactic Globular Clusters Ngc

We present radial velocities and chemical abundances for red giant branch stars in the Galactic bulge globular clusters NGC 6342 and NGC 6366. The velocities and abundances are based on measurements of high resolution (R & 20,000) spectra obtained with the MMT–Hectochelle and WIYN–Hydra spectrographs. We find that NGC 6342 has a heliocentric radial velocity of +112.5 km s (σ = 8.6 km s), NGC 63...

Blue horizontal branch stars in metal-rich globular clusters

Atmospheric parameters (Teff , log g), and radial velocities are derived for twelve candidate blue horizontal branch (HB) stars in the globular clusters 47 Tuc and NGC 362, which so far have been known to contain primarily red HB stars. The spectroscopic targets were selected from the catalog of hot stars detected in these clusters at 1600 Å using the Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (UIT). Spectr...

Search and analysis of blue straggler stars in open clusters

Aims. This paper presents a new homogeneous catalogue of blue straggler stars (BSS) in Galactic open clusters. Methods. Photometric data for 216 clusters were collected from the literature and 2782 BSS candidates were extracted from 76 of them. Results. We found that the anticorrelation of BSS frequency vs. total magnitude identified in similar studies conducted on Galactic globular clusters ex...

Red Giant Branch stars: the theoretical framework.

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT Theoretical predictions of Red Giant Branch stars' effective temperatures, colors, luminosities and surface chemical abundances are a necessary tool for the astrophysical interpretation of the visible–near infrared integrated light from unresolved stellar populations, the Color-Magnitude-Diagrams of resolved stellar clusters and galaxies, and spectroscopic det...

Blue Stragglers after the Main Sequence

We study the post-main sequence evolution of products of collisions between main sequence stars (blue stragglers), with particular interest paid to the horizontal branch and asymptotic giant branch phases. We found that the blue straggler progeny populate the colour-magnitude diagram slightly blueward of the red giant branch and between 0.2 and 1 magnitudes brighter than the horizontal branch. ...
