چکیده
Abstract We analyze Very Large Telescope/UVES observations of the quasar SDSS J024221.87+004912.6. identify four absorption outflow systems: a C iv broad line (BAL) at v ≈ −18,000 km s −1 and three narrower low-ionization systems with centroid velocities ranging from –1200 to –3500 . These outflows show similar physical attributes [O iii ] studied by Liu et al. (2013). find that two are energetic enough contribute active galactic nucleus feedback, one system reaching above 5% quasar’s Eddington luminosity. also this is distance 67 kpc away quasar, farthest detected mini-BAL its central source date. In addition, we examine time-variability BAL velocity monotonically increases, while trough itself becomes shallower over time.

A Balmer-line Broad Absorption Line Quasar
I report the discovery of blueshifted broad absorption line (BAL) troughs in at least six transitions of the Balmer series of hydrogen (Hβ to H9) and in Ca II, Mg II and excited Fe II in the quasar SDSS J125942.80+121312.6. This is only the fourth active galactic nucleus known to exhibit Balmer absorption, all four in conjunction with low-ionization BAL systems containing excited Fe II. The sub...
متن کاملA variable P v broad absorption line and quasar outflow energetics
Broad absorption lines (BALs) in quasar spectra identify high velocity outflows that might exist in all quasars and could play a major role in feedback to galaxy evolution. The viability of BAL outflows as a feedback mechanism depends on their kinetic energies, as derived from the outflow velocities, column densities, and distances from the central quasar. We estimate these quantities for the q...
متن کاملA high - velocity narrow absorption line outflow in the quasar
We report on the discovery of a high-velocity narrow absorption line outflow in the redshift 2.3 quasar J212329.46 − 005052.9. Five distinct outflow systems are detected with velocity shifts from −9710 to −14 050 km s−1 and C IV λλ1548, 1551 linewidths of FWHM ≈ 62– 164 km s−1. This outflow is remarkable for having high speeds and a degree of ionization similar to broad absorption line (BAL) fl...

We report a dynamically evolving low-ionization broad absorption line (BAL) flow in the QSO SDSS J133356.02+001229.1 (at zem ∼ 0.9197). These observations are part of our ongoing monitoring of low-ionization BAL QSOs with the 2-m telescope at IUCAA Girawali Observatory (IGO). The broad Mg II absorption with an ejection velocity of 1.7 × 104 km s−1, found in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) s...
متن کاملProbing Broad Absorption Line Quasar Outflows: X-ray Insights
Energetic outflows appear to occur in conjunction with active mass accretion onto supermassive black holes. These outflows are most readily observed in the ∼ 10% of quasars with broad absorption lines, where the observer’s line of sight passes through the wind. Until fairly recently, the paucity of X-ray data from these objects was notable, but now sensitive hard-band missions such as Chandra a...
