The experience is (not) everything: Sequential outcomes and social decision-making

In multiple pre-registered experiments, we examine the effect of sequences positive and negative experiences on altruism, trust, trustworthiness, cooperation. For non-social experiences, find no subsequent behavior in any these social domains. However, when are nature, more cooperation after gains than losses. neutral with equalizing losses, evidence for a differential irrespective whether experience is or not. Our findings line recent decision making under risk, showing that prior depends task similarity. Beyond that, extend to various forms making. results suggest overall valence an (gain loss) matters, whereas its dynamic trend (improving deteriorating) does
