The Exergy Cost Theory Revisited

نویسندگان

چکیده

This paper reviews the fundamentals of Exergy Cost Theory, an energy cost accounting methodology to evaluate physical costs products systems and their associated waste. Besides, a mathematical computationally approach is presented, which will allow practitioner carry out studies on production regardless structural complexity. The exergy theory was proposed in 1986 by Valero et al. “General savings”. It has been recognized as powerful tool analysis applied evaluation saving alternatives, local optimisation, thermoeconomic diagnosis, or industrial symbiosis. waste formation process presented from thermodynamic perspective rather than economist’s approach. consider external irreversibilities occurring plant processes. A new concept, called irreversibility carrier, introduced, identification origin, transfer, partial recovery, disposal

Cost-exergy optimisation of linear Fresnel reflectors

This paper presents a new method for the optimisation of the mirror element spacing arrangement and operating temperature of linear Fresnel reflectors (LFR). The specific objective is to maximise available power output (i.e. exergy) and operational hours whilst minimising cost. The method is described in detail and compared to an existing design method prominent in the literature. Results are g...

The cost of natural selection revisited

In a constantly changing environment, organisms must continuously adapt or face extinction. J. B. S. Haldane argued that the “cost of natural selection” (also called the cost of substitution) puts an upper limit on the rate of adaptation, and showed that the cost (C) was a decreasing function of the initial frequency of the benefi cial alleles. Based on mutation-selection balance and 10% select...

The economic cost of illness revisited.

In and out of government, determining the cost of illness is a major concern. The allocation of health care resources and the evaluation of current research and program efforts depend in large measure on such information. This article updates the 1963 benchmark study of the cost of illness. For the 16 major diagnostic categories of illnesses, the cost is presented in terms of the direct costs f...

Cognitive Metaphor Theory Revisited

This paper provides a framework which, being compatible with Lakoff and Johnson’s theory (1980), allows a description of metaphoric verbal utterances. The development of this theoretical expansion is encouraged by Lakoff and Johnson’s distinction between nonliteral and literal metaphoric expressions, and by the fact that they do not provide an explanation of the nonliteral metaphoric use of exp...

Herman's Theory Revisited

We prove that a C 2+α-smooth orientation-preserving circle diffeomorphism with rotation number in Diophantine class D δ , 0 < δ < α ≤ 1, is C 1+α−δ-smoothly conjugate to a rigid rotation. We also derive the most precise version of Denjoy's inequality for such diffeomorphisms.
