The essential work of fracture method for the characterisation of fusion bonding in 3D printed short carbon-fibre reinforced polyamide 6 thin films

The fusion bonding between individual filaments of 3D printed short carbon-fibre reinforced polyamide 6 (SCF/PA6) in thin films manufactured using the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process has been studied. were deposited by an ‘in-plane’ mode or ‘interlayer’ mode. main characterisation technique employed was essential work fracture (EWF) method. Undertaking EWF tests on such is shown to be a feasible and efficient way evaluate extent quality SCF/PA6 composites. For example, firstly, for it readily evident that bonding, i.e. adhesion via molecular inter-diffusion, often termed autohesion, weakest, most variable, interlayer This indicated lowest measured values both specific fracture, we, coefficient determination, R2, 19.6 kJ/m2 0.05, respectively, films. Secondly, in-plane significantly enhanced use further compression moulding process, since value R2 increased from 0.77 0.92. results clearly suggest need improve FFF when components are made practical applications.
