چکیده
Abstract Atlantic bluefin tuna (ABFT) is a migratory species whose exploitation affected by its behaviour. ABFT can be found the whole year round in Gulf of Lions (GoL), with exception May/June/July spawning season. The date at which fishing resumes GoL after variable and affects both summer longline fishery local aerial survey used to derive fisheries‐independent index abundance stock assessment. We investigated whether environmental conditions could explain inter‐annual variability availability GoL. focused on Sea surface temperature (SST) northern wind events looking changes start quota completion date. Years weaker displayed higher SST were associated delay catch up more than one month, whereas bulk was completed earlier. Reproductive status and body condition of Atlantic bluefin tuna in the Gulf of Maine, 2000–2002
The reproductive status and body condition of 195 (‡185 cm curved fork length, CFL; assigned age 7 and above) Atlantic bluefin tuna were assessed in the Gulf of Maine during the commercial fishing season of June– October, 2000–2002. Given the distance between known spawning and feeding grounds, the prevailing paradigm for Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus thynnus, L.) suggests that the mos...

of a thesis at the University of Miami. Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) are the largest and most highly prized among the tuna family. They are highly pelagic, undertaking transoceanic migrations throughout the Atlantic, but the main spawning grounds are the Mediterranean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Given their mobility, management for this species is handled through international ...
متن کاملChanges in the Distribution of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) in the Gulf of Maine 1979-2005
The Gulf of Maine, NW Atlantic Ocean, is a productive, seasonal foraging ground for Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), but commercial landings of adult size classes were up to 40% below the allocated total allowable catch between 2004 to 2008 for the rod and reel, harpoon, and purse seine categories in the Gulf of Maine. Reduction in Atlantic bluefin tuna catches in the Gulf of Maine coul...
متن کاملAtlantic Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus thynnus) Diet in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and on the Eastern Scotian Shelf
The stomach contents of 68 Atlantic bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus) landed in Port Hood and Canso, Nova Scotia, in 2010, were analyzed to characterize the diet of bluefin tuna at the two locations. Of the sampled fish, 54 stomachs had contents. Pelagic schooling fish such as herring (Clupea harengus) and mackerel (Scomber scombrus) dominated the diets in both regions. However, a number of rare s...
