The Effects of Zinc Sulfate Supplementation on Serum Copeptin, C-Reactive Protein and Metabolic Markers in Zinc-Deficient Diabetic Patients on Hemodialysis: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial
نویسندگان
چکیده
We aimed to investigate the association between zinc (Zn) supplementation and serum levels of copeptin, high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), glycemic control, anthropometric parameters renal function in Zn -deficient diabetic hemodialysis patients (DHPs). This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (RCT) was conducted on 46 DHPs with Zn-deficiency. The supplement group (n = 21) received a 220-mg/day sulfate capsule (containing 50 mg Zn), control 25) placebo (220 corn starch), for 8 weeks. Fasting, predialysis blood samples were taken at baseline after weeks assess fasting glucose (FBG), insulin, urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr) concentrations, homoeostatic model assessment (HOMA-IR) quantitative insulin-sensitivity check index (QUICKI). Compared controls, copeptin (P < 0.001), hs-CRP BUN Cr FBG 0.001) levels, BMI body weight significantly affected following ZnSO4 In contrast, QUICKI 0.57), HOMA-IR 0.60), insulin 0.55) not comparison receiving placebo. appears have favorable effects hs-CRP, FBG, Zn-deficient DHPs. Zinc supplementation improves bone density in patients with thalassemia: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
BACKGROUND Patients with thalassemia major (Thal) frequently have low plasma zinc, which has been associated with low bone mass. OBJECTIVE The objective was to determine the effect of zinc supplementation on bone mass in patients with Thal. DESIGN Forty-two subjects (21 females aged 10-30 y) with Thal and low bone mass were randomly assigned to receive 25 mg Zn/d or placebo. Bone mineral co...

Objective: Constipation is one of the most common digestive problems in patients undergoing hemodialysis. It has a negative effect on quality of life in these patients. As routine treatments are not effective in this regard, complementary therapies may help to overcome this condition. This study aimed to investigate the effect of acupressure on constipation in patients undergoing hemodialysis. ...
