The Effects of Movie-Enriched Extensive Reading on TOEFL IBT Vocabulary Expansion and TOEFL IBT Speaking Section Score

A wealth of research has been conducted to compare extensive and intensive reading thanks their increasing popularity in educational settings globally. However, only a limited number studies have measure the effects movie-enriched activities. To this aim, present study was undertaken investigate movie enriched on freshman students` TOEFL IBT vocabulary expansion speaking section scores. In regard, 40 students studying at an international private university Erbil, Iraq divided into two groups using stratified random sampling method. Control group (N=20) read analyzed six graded readers by employing reading, whereas experimental actively participated prominent novels watching versions them. mixed methods design employed gather qualitative quantitative data, respectively, so they were utilized make better interpretations. Quantitative data collected through 2 exams related as pre-test post-test. Additionally, interviews. Results independent samples t-test revealed that scores increased significantly, not significant enough control group. Moreover, attitudes towards movies changed positively based interview transcripts. light findings, may some implications for researchers, educators, authorities seeking opportunities integrate curriculum.
