The effectiveness of social stories in an intervention program in late adolescence with high functioning autism spectrum disorders: A case study report

People with high-functioning autism (HFA) demonstrated significant social skill deficits compared to those typically developing. Relatively limited data is still known about the challenges faced (friendship, networks) by adolescents HFA and so far a delayed diagnosis. The case study aimed investigate stories’ effectiveness using an intensive intervention approach on late-adolescent female autism. A 17-year-old girl recent diagnosis of was selected as from private Speech Language Therapy Center involve in immediate program. single-case research design used monitor changes after intervention. Specifically, observation training lasted four weeks, plus two weeks maintenance. done exclusively stories personalised her needs. targeted behaviours were enhance interaction skills, especially ability make friends improve communication. There positive response young Moreover, she displayed more peer throughout program (6 weeks). She managed participate ask peers companies High school, start conversation, call them into house way 44 times 6 weeks. In addition, every week, we recorded increase interactions peers. results demonstrate that story use enhances adolescents' engagement. This provides insights relationship between intervention, communication findings support encouraging late adolescent HFA.
