چکیده

The preparation of biodegradable plastics based on polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-taro starch as an alternative to synthetic has been conducted. aim this research was identify the effect taro composition production plastic and their characteristics in aquatic environment. solution casting method used produce plastic. PVA dissolved hot distilled water, (0; 0.5; 1.5; 2.5; 3.5 g) another chamber filled with glycerol citric acid. Both solutions were mixed together CaCO3 then added. mixture casted acrylic plates while without a control. Characteristic Biodegradable it’s properties examined by Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR), water uptake, moisture absorption test. While biodegrability sample tested river media laboratory. results showed that wave number at 1698-1712 cm-1, indicating cross-linking between occured. Water uptake tests all varieties produced hydrophilic. biodegradation test largest degree decomposition reached PVA-starch g variety which 80.33%. Thus, more plastic, achieved.

Genetic Diversification and Dispersal of Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott)

Taro (Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott) is widely distributed in tropical and sub-tropical areas. However, its origin, diversification and dispersal remain unclear. While taro genetic diversity has been documented at the country and regional levels in Asia and the Pacific, few reports are available from Americas and Africa where it has been introduced through human migrations. We used eleven mic...

Cloning, expression, and characterization of soluble starch synthase I cDNA from taro (Colocasia esculenta Var. esculenta).

Soluble starch synthase I (SSSI) cDNA was isolated from taro (Colocasia esculenta var. esculenta) by RT-PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends reaction. The transcript of this single-copy gene is 2340 bp and encodes 642 amino acids protein containing a putative transit peptide of 54 residues. Recombinant SSSI protein displayed both primer-dependent and primer-independent activities of starch ...
