The effect of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation on exercise-induced muscle damage

چکیده

BackgroundExercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) results in transient inflammation, strength loss, soreness and may cause subsequent exercise avoidance. Omega-3 (n-3) supplementation minimise EIMD via its anti-inflammatory properties, however, efficacy remains unclear.MethodsHealthy males (n = 14, 25.07 ± 4.05 years) were randomised to 3 g/day n-3 (N-3, n 7) or placebo (PLA, 7). Following 4 weeks supplementation, a downhill running protocol (60 min, 65% V?O2max, ? 10% gradient) was performed. Creatine kinase (CK), interleukin (IL)-6 tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-?, perceived soreness, maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) peak power quantified pre, post, 24, 48 72 h post-EIMD.ResultsMuscle significantly lower N-3 vs PLA group at 24 post-EIMD (p 0.034). IL-6 increased 0.009) but not 0.434) following EIMD, no significant differences noted between groups. Peak suppressed relative pre-EIMD post-EIMD. However, difference output observed MVIC, CK TNF-? altered by did differ groups.ConclusionN-3 for successfully attenuate minor aspects of EIMD. Whilst improving performance, these findings have relevance soreness-associated

The Effect of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation on the Inflammatory Response to eccentric strength exercise.

Omega-3 fatty acids (omega-3) have anti-inflammatory properties. However, it is not known if omega-3 supplementation attenuates exercise-induced inflammation. We tested the hypothesis that omega-3 supplementation reduces inflammation that is induced by eccentric arm curl exercise. Healthy adult men and women (n=11; 35 ± 10 y) performed eccentric biceps curls on two occasions, once after 14d of ...

Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation

Free fatty acids and the risk of sudden death • Elevated circulating free fatty acids have been reported to be a risk factor for sudden death. In the Paris Prospective Study reported by Jouven et al. [ 3 ], 5250 men were observed over a mean follow-up period of 22 years. The concept that omega-3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) may have potential health benefits has been supported by e...

The Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation on Dexamethasone-Induced Muscle Atrophy

Corticosteroids cause muscle atrophy by acting on proteasomal and lysosomal systems and by affecting pathways related to muscular trophysm, such as the IGF-1/PI-3k/Akt/mTOR. Omega-3 fatty acid (n-3) has been used beneficially to attenuate muscle atrophy linked to sepsis and cachexia; however, its effect on dexamethasone-induced muscle atrophy has not been evaluated. Objectives. We evaluated whe...

Effect of Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acid Supplementation in Patients with Atrial Fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained atrial arrhythmia conferring a higher morbidity and mortality. Despite the increasing incidence of AF; available therapies are far from perfect. Dietary fish oils, containing omega 3 fatty acids, also called polyunsaturated fatty acid [PUFA] have demonstrated beneficial electrophysiological, autonomic and anti-inflammatory effects on both at...

Hormonal and metabolic effects of polyunsaturated fatty acid (omega-3) on polycystic ovary syndrome induced rats under diet

Objective(s): PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old). It is thought to be one of the leading causes of female subfertility. This study aimed to confirm the role of nutrition containing omega-3 (polyunsaturated fatty acid) on control of experimental PCO induced by estradiol-valerat in rats. Materials and Method...
