The effect of complete dentures on edentulous patients' oral health-related quality of life in long-term: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background: To evaluate whether the long-term use of complete dentures (CD) into promotes significant changes in oral health-related quality life (OHRQoL) edentulous patients.Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. broad search Pubmed, Web Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Grey Literature, clinical trials registers manual done. The eligibility criteria were based on population, intervention, comparisons outcome: (P) patients, (I) CDs rehabilitation, (C) OHRQoL after CD, (O) change scores OHRQoL. Two independent reviewers applied criteria, collected qualitative data, performed methodological evaluated certainty evidence (grading recommendations assessment, development evaluation). analyzed RevMan 5.4 with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) P < 0.05.Results: total 2452 records identified. Twenty-four articles included synthesis. Nineteen studies qualified as good, 3 fair 2 poor quality. Twelve quantitative analysis (meta-analysis). CD did not improved a period months through assessment Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) instrument (P = 0.55; CI; 6.86 [−15.60, 29.31]), Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) 0.05; −14.91 [−29.87, 0.04]), very low evidence. In long term, 6 months, GOHAI 0.00001; 16.22 [10.70, 21.74]), OHIP 20 0.02; −11.09 [−20.54, −1.64]) OHIP-EDENT 0.0004; −8.59 [−13.32, −3.86]) showed improvement OHRQoL, certainty, respectively.Conclusion: has strong potential to contribute long-term.
