The effect of altitude on soil organic carbon content in semi-arid mediterranean climate

چکیده
One of the most effective means in combating climate change and desertification is soil organic carbon (SOC) management. However, land use puts a high pressure to fragile SOC pools particularly semi-arid environments where decomposition rate due low moisture. Therefore, at higher elevations Mediterranean Basin with cooler temperature than coastal plains better moisture contents. Agricultural on highlands has increased recent years because relatively water requirement crops. The purpose this study analyze determine dynamics relation variations physical chemical characteristics from different elevations, ranging 64 meters 756 climate. revealed decreases versus altitude increases that varied 24.7 38.7 t ha-1 correlation coefficient 0.527. main driver decreasing by elevation probably displacing fine particles surface horizons accelerated erosion sloping cultivated lands altitudes. As result, it necessary focus both plant pattern along management techniques for enhancing matter agricultural production elevations.

Rangelands cover approximately 85% of Kenya’s land mass and is a major resource for livestock farming with a considerable potential to mitigate climate change, yet these lands are stressed differently by various management. Our study aimed at determining the influence of grazing management systems (rotational, continuous and ungrazed) on soil organic carbon stocks in Yoani ranch located in the ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Paved Roads on Organic Carbon Content of Soil in Taham Dam Basin
Background; Contamination of water and soil through non-point sources such as road runoff causes environmental concern. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Zanjan – Chavarzagh road on the total organic carbon (TOC) content of sediments in tributaries and the river that lead to Taham Lake. Methods; In tributaries and the river 69 soil and sediment samples were taken and the Tota...
متن کاملEffects of climate change on soil respiration and carbon processing in Mediterranean and semi-arid regions: An experimental approach
Recent regional climate-change models indicated significant changes in the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall in the Mediterranean-Basin region. Understanding the consequences of rainfall alterations for soil respiration and carbon processing in these regions is essential, considering their crucial functions for soil fertility and ecosystem functioning. Our aim was to evaluate the ef...
متن کاملthe effect of taftan pozzolan on the compressive strength of concrete in the environmental conditions of oman sea (chabahar port)
cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
