On the Weak Reflection Principle

The Weak Reflection Principle for ω2, or WRP(ω2), is the statement that every stationary subset of Pω1 (ω2) reflects to an uncountable ordinal in ω2. The Reflection Principle for ω2, or RP(ω2), is the statement that every stationary subset of Pω1 (ω2) reflects to an ordinal in ω2 with cofinality ω1. Let κ be a κ+-supercompact cardinal and assume 2κ = κ+. Then there exists a forcing poset P whic...

Unimodality and the Reflection Principle

We show how lattice paths and the reflection principle can be used to give easy proofs of unimodality results. In particular, we give a “one-line” combinatorial proof of the unimodality of the binomial coefficients. Other examples include products of binomial coefficients, polynomials related to the Legendre polynomials, and a result connected to a conjecture of Simion.

On the Reflection Principle In

We propose a reflection principle for holomorphic objects in Cn . Our construction generalizes the classical principle of H.Lewy, S.Pinchuk and S.Webster. Key-words: reflection principle, generic manifold, maximum modulus set, holomorphic extension. A.M.S. Classification: 32D15, 32D99, 32F25, 32H99.

Generalized Definitional Reflection and the Inversion Principle

The term inversion principle goes back to Lorenzen who coined it in the early 1950s. It was later used by Prawitz and others to describe the symmetric relationship between introduction and elimination inferences in natural deduction, sometimes also called harmony. In dealing with the invertibility of rules of an arbitrary atomic production system, Lorenzen’s inversion principle has a much wider...

A Constructive Schwarz Reflection Principle

We prove a constructive version of the Schwarz reflection principle. Our proof techniques are in line with Bishop’s development of constructive analysis. The principle we prove enables us to reflect analytic functions in the real line, given that the imaginary part of the function converges to zero near the real line in a uniform fashion. This form of convergence to zero is classically equivale...
