The Dependence of Stellar Activity Cycles on Effective Temperature

چکیده
This paper proposes the idea that observed dependence of stellar activity cycles on rotation rate can be a manifestation stronger effective temperature. Observational evidence is recalled and theoretical arguments are given for presence cyclic in case sufficiently slow only. Slow means proximity to upper bound period solar-type stars. maximum depends temperature shortens hotter The interpreted as minimum operation large-scale dynamo. A combined model differential dynamo applied stars different mass rotating with slightly above threshold Computations show shorter As rotate faster, computed also faster rotation. smaller explained by larger amplitude $\alpha$-effect onset their dynamos: $\alpha$ demands (cycling) magnetic energy computations proportional difference between its Stars moderately rates differ significantly super-criticality dynamos therefore activity, observed.

The Wilson-Bappu effect of the MgII k line – dependence on stellar temperature, activity and metallicity
The Wilson-Bappu effect is investigated using accurate absolute magnitudes of 65 stars obtained through early release of data from the Hipparcos satellite together with MgII k line widths determined from high resolution spectra observed with the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) observatory. Stars of spectral classes F, G, K and M and luminosity classes I-V are represented in the sample....
متن کاملTheoretical Basis of Stellar Activity Cycles
Numerical simulations of hydromagnetic turbulence in the presence of shear and/or convection have given us new clues as to how the solar dynamo might work. Simulations suggest that here is signiicant large-scale magnetic eld generation at the bottom of the convection zone, where the radial shear is largest. The nature of the dynamo in the simulations seems to be qualitatively similar to an-dyna...
متن کاملAsteroseismic Signatures of Stellar Magnetic Activity Cycles
Observations of stellar activity cycles provide an opportunity to study magnetic dynamos under many different physical conditions. Space-based asteroseismology missions will soon yield useful constraints on the interior conditions that nurture such magnetic cycles, and will be sensitive enough to detect shifts in the oscillation frequencies due to the magnetic variations. We derive a method for...
