The deep roots of rebellion

چکیده

This paper analyzes the triggers of rebellion and documents historical roots conflict using a unique dataset at individual level. Drawing on evidence from Famine (1845–1850) its effect Irish Revolution (1916–1921), we show how negative shocks can explain social unrest in long run. These findings are confirmed by analysis surnames, which enables study socio-cultural persistence over time. The instrumental variable based wind direction that determined spread potato blight caused provides further support legacy rebellion. • Analysis conflict. Evidence (1916–1921).
