What Determines the Finance-Growth Nexus? An Endogenous Growth Model and Empirical Evidence

An endogenous growth model on finance and growth is formulated, and empirical analyses are conducted. The model exhibits structural shifts and breaks caused by institutional changes, suggesting that a linear approach is inadequate. To address this point empirically, we fit data for 90 countries from 1960–2000 to a standard growth equation with a proxy for financial activity. Firstly, it is show...

Finance-growth Nexus in Bangladesh? an Empirical Analysis

We examine the empirical relationship between financial and economic growth in Bangladesh over the period of 1985-2014. Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test is performed for checking the stationarity properties and it is revealed that all the concerned variables are stationary. Johansen cointegration method indicates that long-run cointegrating relationship prevails in some of the concerned varia...

Can Debt Affect Your Health? Cross Country Evidence on the Debt-Health Nexus

We investigate the relationship between household debt and health outcomes for OECD countries over the period 1995 to 2012. Using a dataset of aggregated, standardized and objective measures of household debt and health outcomes, we estimate an instrumental variable (GMM) model in order to deal with endogeneity and reverse causality concerns between health and debt. We find that higher househol...

It introduces the polynomial inverse lag (PIL) framework so that the impacts of inequality on investment, education, and ultimately on growth can be measured at precisely defined time lags. Combining PIL with simultaneous systems of equations, we analyze the growth–inequa...
