Artefacts associated with a cryoglobulin.
A 70 year old man is described in whom the presence of a cryoglobulin caused a number of unusual laboratory features which were not recognized as being due to a cryoglobulin initially. Pseudoleucocytosis has been recognized in the past. However, the intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies have only rarely been described. The curious appearance of the ESR has not previously been described.
متن کاملThe lupus erythematosus cell inclusion phenomenon.
In 1948 Hargraves and his associates at the Mayo Clinic described two new entities in marrow biopsy material, the " tart " cell and the " lupus erythematosus " (L.E.) cell. Since then the morphology and the mechanism of production of these " cells " have been intensively studied in the United States. It is the purpose of this communication to report the finding of L.E. cells in the bone marrow ...

Three patients with cryoglobulinemia have been treated with automated plasma exchange procedures in which the replacement fluid was autologous plasma. obtained at a previous plasmapheresis and incubated in the cold to precipitate abnormal protein. All three responded with a reduction in cryoglobulin level and an improvement in clinical manifestations of cryoglobulinemia. The cost of treatment w...
متن کاملRapid cryoglobulin screening: an aid to the clinician.
A rapid screening method for serum cryoblobulin is reported. It requires only common laboratory equipment and is based upon the detection of light scattering (500 millimicron) in the early phase of cryoaggregation. All of 28 sera negative for cryoglobulins by the conventional 5-day incubation method were negative by the screening method. Conversely, all sera containing 60 microgram/ml or more o...
